Polishing up her skills with the likes of saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, Randy Crawford made her mark with Everything Must Change in 1976, a debut packed with soul-tinged jazz and elegant ballads. The funk-addled dance-floor anthem Street Life (1979), alongside The Crusaders, helped her reach crowds on both sides of the Atlantic, though her love affair with Europe grew steadily from the ‘80s onwards, thanks to albums like Now We May Begin. These tracks envelop her resounding, electrifying voice with jazz and soul/R&B hues, while funk and disco notes snap through for added verve.
