Known for his amiable lack of pretension, singer/songwriter Michel Berger had a melodic Midas touch. Before his unexpected death in 1992 at age 44, Berger helped revive the careers of Françoise Hardy and Johnny Hallyday as a songwriter; composed ambitious musicals and rock operas about televangelism, Patty Hearst and James Dean; and topped the pop charts with tuneful gems celebrating love and music.
