In the '60s, French teens were obsessed with American culture and jazz percolated through the capital's musical spheres. American trumpeter Miles Davis was in love with Paris, and Paris was in love with him. Smoky sounds were also absorbed into France's groovy film soundtracks, into the psyche of provocateur Serge Gainsbourg—and into the bouncy pop of the singing Lolitas known as the Yé-Yé girls.
