Along with peers like Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg, Francis Lemarque is one of France's most beloved post-war singer/songwriters, with a songbook that spans three decades. From the jaunty songs he wrote for his idol Yves Montand to the sweet ballads later covered by the likes of Eartha Kitt, Lemarque's eye and pen paid homage to his hometown as well as to the otherwise unheralded working-class Parisians that gave the City of Lights its luminosity.
