Dominican Republic-born Fernando Villalona began his singing career in the early '70s, and by the next decade his fame had transcended his home country borders. His dozens of albums and singles are beautifully produced — bolstered by punchy brass, blistering Latin percussion, and up-to-the moment beats and arranging. It's been said that his dynamic voice could bends trees and calm babies, sometimes in the same song. In 2011, he celebrated 40 years in music with Mi Luz, a Christian album, and he continues to perform and record.
