Digital Underground Essentials

Digital Underground are a Bay Area hip-hop treasure. Masterminded by late producer and rapper Shock G, they formed in the late-'80s before dropping their debut, Sex Packets, in 1990. Spearheaded by the funked-up "Humpty Dance"—a track which saw Shock rapping as his alter ego Humpty Hump—they revelled as eccentric characters and came across as the hip-hop chapter of George Clinton's P-funk movement. The group continued to put out a series of cosmic funk-fuelled albums throughout the '90s, and also introduced 2Pac to the world via "Same Song".
