Devin the Dude Essentials

Devin the Dude Essentials

With his off-kilter delivery and warmly creaky voice, Devin the Dude has been an affable legend on Houston's hip-hop scene since the late '90s. After debuting as a member of Odd Squad, he launched a solo career on Rap-A-Lot Records, spinning tales like “Lacville ‘79” over his own bluesy production and teaming with DJ Premier on the 2002 smokers' anthem “Doobie Ashtray”. He brought sleepy-eyed charm to a slow jam with labelmate Scarface, and he was the conscience of a G-funk matchup with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Despite those brushes with the mainstream, he remains a cult figure with an easygoing sound.
