An antidote to marketing-focussed music, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and arranger Babx, a.k.a. David Babin, emerged with his eponymous album in 2006. A zealous wordsmith of the French quotidian, he colours his references of zapping and Lady Day with influences from cabaret, Tom Waits and Radiohead—his vivid and poignant piano weaving its way through guitars, double-bass and the odd Chamberlin. Babx's passion for poetry crystallised on 2015's Cristal Automatique 1, a haunting, avant-gardist homage to the free-spirited verse of Jean Genet and Arthur Rimbaud.
