At Home With Gloria Estefan: The Playlist

“This is definitely our World War,” Gloria Estefan says about the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s the silent killer. You can't see where the shots are being fired from. So it's a very strange thing, but at least we have the tools. We still have to latch on to the good things.” In her revealing At Home With conversation with Zane Lowe, the veteran Latin pop hitmaker opens up about achieving international stardom fronting Miami Sound Machine, her 40-year-plus marriage with Emilio Estefan and how music got her through after the passing of her mother. As she returns with her 13th solo LP, BRAZIL305, which features re-recorded versions of her greatest hits with Brazilian rhythms, Estefan curated an exclusive playlist of tracks she considers, in her words, “my love letter to Brazil”. “The songs I chose were people that were influences in my early life, but also the original songs from which stemmed songs that I recorded in Spanish and later in the Rio album and in the very first album that I did with Miami Sound Machine [Live Again (Renacer)],” she says about the playlist, which includes tracks by Sergio Mendes, Rita Lee, Stan Getz & João Gilberto, and Daniela Mercury. “Every song that I chose has a very specific reason for being, and I think my fans, especially, are going to get a really clear picture when they hear this playlist.”
