Vocalist and songwriter Andrew McMahon got his start in the ‘00s pop-punk group Something Corporate, where he showed off a knack for lovesick, pogo-ready anthems such as “Punk Rock Princess”, while also demonstrating his skill with witty lyrics and wistful piano-led melodies on “If You C Jordan”. His solo project Jack's Mannequin found him exploring his interest in moody ballads that didn't skimp on the catharsis, such as “Swim”. And when he began performing under his own name in 2012, his disparate sensibilities were woven together with graceful arrangements and sharp storytelling in songs like the arena-sized “Cecilia and the Satellite”.
