It's little wonder French singer/songwriter Alain Kan was one of the first to cover David Bowie in the '70s. Embodying a similarly theatrical glam-rock attitude, Kan embarked on his winding path in the '60s, first releasing commercial pop songs before shifting towards avant-garde art rock as in the mesmerising “Ma Solitude”. Kan had a varied voice—both soulful and growling—and lyrics that are as eccentric as they are ironic, such as on “Speed My Speed”. Always restless, Kan disappeared in 1990, never to be seen again, leaving behind a fascinating body of work.
