“While it’s so important to understand the past, it is equally important to face the future and evolve with the present,” German Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott tells Apple Music. It’s a statement that applies to her 2021 album Echoes of Life—which brings together music by Chilly Gonzales, Toru Takemitsu, Arvo Pärt and György Ligeti with Chopin’s Preludes—as well as the way it was recorded, in Spatial Audio. In this short film, Ott discusses how the genre-hopping way we listen to music inspired the album and opens up about the awe-inspiring experience of hearing her music in Spatial Audio for the very first time.
