Red Sheep

Estian Daniël Maree and Richard Max Koenig—a.k.a. Red Sheep—specialise in relatable indie-folk songs that find a perfect balance between calm and upbeat. The duo first met in 2016 as students at the Stellenbosch University, where they joined and eventually led the Sailors, an a cappella group that took part in numerous singing contests and won multiple awards. Upon forming Red Sheep in 2018, the duo complemented their voices with a palette of acoustic guitar, harmonica, ukulele and piano. The following year, they released their breakout singles “Soul Fire” and “Letter in Portuguese” to critical acclaim. When they are not delivering delightful melodies and personal lyrics as a duo, the pair are gracing world stages as members of the globally renowned Stellenbosch University Choir.
