About DEMON
U.K. heavy metal unit Demon emerged as part of the early-80s "New Wave Of British Heavy Metal" movement. Their debut single "Liar," recorded for the independent Clay Records label, earned a licensing deal with Carrere Records to release the album, NIGHT OF THE DEMON, in 1981. The band would progress to incorporate more melody and dynamics by 1983's THE PLAGUE (1983), designed as a musical equivalent to George Orwell’s novel 1984. BRITISH STANDARD APPROVED consolidated the band’s position as the U.K.’s leading exponents of underground melodic rock. A string of highly polished, atmospheric studio albums followed, notably 1985's HEART OF OUR TIME. However, diminishing commercial returns resulted in the band losing their record contract; 2001’s SPACED OUT MONKEY finally broke a nine-year hiatus.
