About Common Fires

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At age 11, I performed a song at a Winnipeg pub with the house-band - I think they were called 'Airfoil' or something. I played the lead parts to 'Kryptonite' by 3 Doors Down on a blue Squier Stratocaster. It was weird. Good weird. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bon Iver, 22, A Million Radiohead, Amnesiac The Decemberists, Hazards of Love These three albums all changed my mind about music in some way. As a teenager in Mexico, 'The Hazards of Love' taught me about ambitious arrangements; 'Amnesiac' taught me to be weird. '22, A Million' inspired new textures and abrasiveness in pop. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Settle Down Love” I was scared to release something as "weird" as this song. In some ways, it's my simplest - with just one repeating chord progression. But good gravy, did it push me vocally. I hope I always try new things, and worry less about trying them. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Sharing a festival bill with The Killers, Florence and the Machine, The War on Drugs was neat - though we obviously played different stages. I remember this event mostly for the moment I made a fool of myself in front of Dan Mangan. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? If I can manage my time in the future to include more music - writing, arranging, producing, promoting, performing, yep, that'd be it. I'd love to record a confident, minimal acoustic record and tame my maximalist side down one day - for my sake!
