Calling their seventh album The Apostates might lead one to believe that Glorior Belli have renounced their sinuous blend of Luciferian black metal and New Orleans-style sludge, but nothing could be further from the truth. The dramatic opening salvos of “Sui Generis” give way to a cannonade of drums and shades of NOLA sludge lords Eyehategod before erupting into the exultant blitzkrieg of “Bedlam Bedamned”, the hard blues swing of “Hangin’ Crepe” and the slow-burning triumph of closer “Rebel Reveries”.
