Type O Negative: Influences

Type O Negative liked their jams heavy and dark. Where the band's sinister riffs were shaped by doom-metal classics like Sabbath's bleak rager “Paranoid,” their murky atmospherics were an outgrowth of the echo-soaked gloom of The Sisters of Mercy's gothic-rock landmark “Dominion / Mother Russia.” Meanwhile, Peter Steele's evil persona borrowed a few shock-rock theatrics from Kiss' “God of Thunder”.
