The Clancy Brothers were a key part of the fabled Greenwich Village folk scene and the most popular Irish folk singing group to play for American audiences. Brothers Paddy, Tom, Bob and Liam Clancy, usually joined by Tommy Makem, made trademarks of their rousing harmonies and snappy Aran sweaters. Though they favoured sea shanties and party songs, they didn't shy away from more serious political material; their fans included Bob Dylan, Bono and John F. Kennedy. The group continued until 1998; the last remaining member, Liam Clancy, died in 2009.
