DJ Manny might have been born in juke and footwork’s ancestral home of Chicago, but his sound echoes far outside the Midwest. Where his peers might make darker-sounding tracks strictly for battling on dance floors, Manny—who calls both Brooklyn and Chicago home—focuses not just on so-quick-they-make-you-trip beats but also melodies and sampling, taking in elements of house and techno, soul, hip-hop and R&B. It makes for an almost playful vibe that, like the title of his recent EP suggests, makes Feet Start Dancing.
