Schlager entered the ‘80s on a high note, as the smooth German pop and American-influenced rock of the preceding decade jumped aboard the global disco train. While the legendary likes of past Eurovision winner Udo Jürgens and rockabilly balladeer Roy Black plugged in the synths and succumbed to the big beat, newcomers Hanne Haller and Claudia Jung revived the sweeter strains of vintage schlager.
