His debut single "Cadillac Style" showed him to be a twang-loving disciple of old-school kings like George Jones and Merle Haggard, and it was that sense of traditionalism that helped him stand out from his peers. Kershaw also showed a knack for delivering tongue-in-cheek lyrics with just the right balance between sarcasm and sentiment, as heard on the left-field love song "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer".
