Rustie Essentials

Rustie takes giddy influences—8-bit video-game crunch, candy-coated happy hardcore, lurching dubstep, and the kick-to-the-head drums of gabber and crunk—and elevates them into an elegantly futuristic style he once half-jokingly dubbed "aquacrunk”. The DJ/producer burst onto the scene in 2007 alongside fellow iconoclast Hudson Mohawke, both part of a Glasgow scene flipping hip-hop, electro and rave into new forms. His debut album, 2011's Glass Swords, depicted a neon-coloured universe streaked with crystalline starships; subsequent albums have fleshed it out in ever more vivid detail.
