Their million-selling 2000 hit "Blackwater", one of Detroit techno's most iconic songs, ensured Octave One's place in dance music's history books, but the group's accomplishments hardly end there. Formed in 1990 by brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, they got their start on Derrick May's Transmat before launching their own 430 West label, where they released UR's Mad Mike and DJ Rolando, their own 1997 debut album and the Burdens' Random Noise Generation project. Both live and on record, their synth-heavy, funk-infused sound is a joyous affirmation of the timelessness of Motor City soul.
