Christian Marclay Essentials

Christian Marclay keeps one foot in the experimental music world and the other in the land of visual art. One of the first musicians to use the turntable as an instrument, the California-born composer employs skips, loops, and vinyl records broken apart and then re-assembled. He even released a record in '85 that was to be sold without a jacket or sleeve, to allow for scratches and dust to accumulate and change the sound of the music on it. Marclay is now a vital member of the New York experimental scene thanks to supporters and collaborators like Yoko Ono, Sonic Youth, and John Zorn.
