What started out as a New York concert series in 1985 to celebrate emerging American women in Celtic and Irish folk music morphed into the supergroup Cherish the Ladies (named after a famous jig). Led by flautist and tin whistle player Joanie Madden, the group puts a contemporary spin on both instrumental and lyric-filled music traditions. Having collaborated with the likes of Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and Tom Chapin, Cherish the Ladies regularly sells out the world's most esteemed concert halls.
