Home-grown music in Switzerland reached mountainous heights between 2000 and 2009. The rock and pop outfits that ruled the ’90s remained vital parts of the scene. However, thanks to the advent of streaming, the country’s well-defined genres blurred, with countless acts emerging as a result. Helvetic EDM, R&B, indie, hip-hop and everything in between merged into exciting new sounds. While international acts dominated the charts, local stars such as DJ Antoine and rockers Gotthard cut fresh ground. Swiss music boomed at the start of the 21st century and it hasn’t looked back since.
