Flat Duo Jets

About Flat Duo Jets

In the mid 1980s, Dexter Romweber--one of Athens, Georgia's many resident eccentrics--formed his blues-a-billy outfit, Flat Duo Jets, with drummer Chris "Crow" Smith. Aside from a two-year period as a trio, the brash, bass-less sound and frenetic abandon (or "demonic possession" depending on one's perspective) defined their aesthetic. Beloved by a loyal, mostly southern fanbase, the Flat Duo Jets released albums on sympathetic indie labels, and made a memorable appearance in the documentary ATHENS, GA. INSIDE OUT. Well after their last album was released, Flat Duo Jets started getting their critical due when bands such as the White Stripes copped to their influence, and a documentary about Romweber, TWO HEADED COW, exposed the artist to a wider audience.
