About Danny Felix

Danny Felix is a Mexican Regional songwriter, recording artist, and producer. He is one of the principal architects of the popular "corridos tumbados" style. Also known as "trap corridos," the subgenre weds hip-hop stylings and rhythms to traditional corrido and ranchera forms. Felix is a virtuoso guitarist, considered by many to be the most innovative and technically proficient instrumentalist in the genre. He is also a respected record producer who has helmed numerous sessions by charting artists including Natanael Cano and Luis Coronel. Felix began his recording career in earnest with 2019's self-released studio offering Sigo Firme de Pie. He also recorded, played on, and produced Bad Bunny's charting remix of "Soy el Diablo" (ft. Natanael Cano). In 2020, Felix self-released three live albums and the studio outing Musica Romantica and also signed to Fonovisia. He delivered no less than 11 singles and six videos, solo or in collaboration, among them the regional hits "Impala Tumbado" and "Zombie"; both appeared on his label debut Vuelve in January of 2021. Though Felix lives in Phoenix, he was born in Sinaloa, Mexico into a musical family; his father had a local performing and recording group. At 10 he began learning guitar, bass, and accordion. He developed proficiency on all three, but guitar was his primary instrument. At 18, Felix began writing and producing songs. He played in his dad's band and produced their recording sessions, and started his own band, Los de Finix. In 2013, he began producing for his dad's group and other local and regional artists across genres. When 14-year-old singer Natanael Cano first visited Phoenix after signing to Five Music, he was introduced to Felix. They began working together in 2018. Felix produced his early singles, including "El de Los Lente Gucci," "Platicame el Ti," "F1," and "El MB." When Cano signed to Compton, California's Rancho Humilde the following year, he contacted Felix to come to Los Angeles and produce him. The corridos tumbados die was cast as Felix co-wrote and helmed hit singles such as "El Drip" and "Soy el Diablo" while shaping the trap corridos sound. When Bad Bunny heard the latter track, he flipped and requested a remix so he could participate. He had another request, too: that Felix produce it and add more of his guitar to the mix. The single peaked inside the Top 20 at Hot Latin Songs and inside the Top Ten at streaming. Felix accompanied Cano on tour nationally playing guitar; he wrote and recorded his own music during off hours. 2019 found him producing and collaborating with Linea Activada on her popular single "Somos Hombres o Payasos," and self-releasing his own long-player, Sigo Firme de Pi, backed by Los de Finix. While writing songs at a fever pitch, Felix was insanely busy producing tracks for Cano, Luis Coronel, Tito Torbellino, Jr., and others. In January of 2020, Felix needed an outlet for his growing backlog of original songs. He digitally issued the 20-track studio outing Musica Romantica. He signed a record deal with Fonovisia that allowed him to clear his own decks of older material before coming aboard. To that end, he self-released three digital live albums. April's Live, Finix Style included the studio single "Puros Marijuanos" and ten cuts from the band's popular concert repertoire. Live, Cumbia Style followed in May, showcasing the many forms Felix's writing took; Live, Rancho Style appeared in June as a collection of ranchera, mariachi, and corridos. Felix issued solo and collaborative singles and as well as producing. He worked alongside Edgardo Nunez on "El Negra a Negra" and Ralphy Dreamz on "Tu Despedida." He issued his first corridos tumbados anthems for Fonovisia, which included "Impala Tumbado" and "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)." He also released the utterly traditional "La Leyenda de Los Llanos," backed by Nano Machado y Los Keridos. Felix began previewing singles and videos for his label debut, including a Matt Hunter collaboration titled "Malas Decisiones" and the solo entries "Zombie" and Tiran Tierra." The videos racked up millions of views and registered on streaming charts. In January of 2021, Felix released the Fonovisia long-player Vuelve. The video for its title-track single racked up 450,000 views during its first week, while its second, "Malas Experiences," garnered another 300,000. The 13-track set included several previously issued singles, as well "La F*****g Ola" (feat. Abraham Vasquez). In February, Felix produced, co-wrote, and was a featured collaborator on the Luis R. Conriquez single "El 0-10." ~ Thom Jurek
