Released in 1988, this album was something of an instant classic. Featuring Corelli’s much-loved Concerti Grossi, Op. 6, it includes the No. 8 “Christmas” Concerto, the best-known of the set of 12 published in 1714. Interpreted beautifully by The English Concert and Trevor Pinnock, Corelli’s Op. 6 is full of variety and delight. With stylish contributions from Pinnock at the harpsichord and violinist Simon Standage, the set has a feeling of spontaneity about it, aided by inspired ensemble playing. Recorded at London’s Henry Wood Hall on period instruments, this album’s popularity remains as high as ever.
