In the late '00s, young French guitarist Thibault Cauvin debuted with a skill set that stretched across several traditions: He brought a folky feel to the transcription of pieces by Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz, and a finger-snapping amount of classic American swing to his performance of Ellington and Strayhorn's “Take the A Train.” Cauvin's melodic sensitivity and graceful fingerwork is evident in his soft, lilting performances of classics by Scarlatti and Domeniconi—and in newer, upbeat jazz pieces by Serbian-American composer Dusan Bogdanovic.
