98° Essentials

Combining rich vocal harmonies with heart-on-sleeve emotions, 98° were the romance kings of the Y2K boy-band boom. Justin Jeffre, Jeff Timmons and brothers Drew and Nick Lachey were all born in Ohio and came together in Los Angeles. The quartet hit big with gooey ballads like the longing “The Hardest Thing” and the sparkling love song “I Do (Cherish You)” while proving their R&B bona fides through collaborations with Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder. 98° could also turn up the volume and amp up the tempo, as jams like the quick-stepping “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” and the jittery “The Way You Want Me To” showed.
