About Monty Python
In 1969 John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, and animator Terry Gilliam joined forces in England to form the groundbreaking comedy troupe Monty Python. The group’s mix of surrealism, satire, music, farce, philosophy, and flat-out absurdity first found expression as the BBC television series MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS. Several albums followed, including MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS LP and MONTY PYTHON’S PREVIOUS RECORD, as well as films, including AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. Even though the group worked together less in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, they still managed to create new recordings (1976’s LIVE AT CITY CENTER) and films (1979’s MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN). MONTY PYTHON’S THE MEANING OF LIFE (1983) was the group’s last official project.
