Leah Williamson: Music That Moves Me

England’s Leah Williamson assembles a stirring Music That Moves Me playlist designed to help with the setbacks that can pave the way for success. “I’m really on board with listening to sad music during those moments, like when I got injured recently,” she tells Apple Music. “I’m a person that likes to feel the emotion of whatever situation has presented itself, and I switch when I’m back to work, like, ‘OK—let’s go for it now.’ And I’ll turn to Motown and soul tracks, which connect me to real life.” Receiving her first call-up in 2017, Williamson skippers the Lionesses at this summer’s tournament, and even with plenty of optimism surrounding the England camp she calls on the blues—with hits from Adele, Lady Wray, Aretha Franklin, Cat Burns and Louis Dunford—to help her prepare for the inevitable rollercoaster of competition. “I’m a bit different from others in the sense that generally you listen to pumped-up music with a strong beat to get you moving,” she says. “But I like music that also chills me out before the game.”
