Kate Nash Essentials

Since the release of her 2007 breakthrough single, “Foundations”, Kate Nash has been known for meticulously told, brutally honest songs that trace the contours of her always-whirling mind. Born in London in 1987, Nash attended the BRIT School to study acting but switched to music after graduation. Her debut album, Made of Bricks, which came out in 2007, showed off her pop-song chops and talkative, distinctive vocal style; she followed that up in 2010 with My Best Friend Is You, which expanded the girl-group ideal to include riot grrrl broadsides and dance collectives. On 2013’s Girl Talk, Nash embraced heavier guitars; she also returned to acting in the 2010s, with her role as Rhonda “Britannica” Richardson on the wrestling soap GLOW getting raves. In the 2020s, Nash further expanded her range by writing the period musical Only Gold, and her fifth album, 2024’s 9 Sad Symphonies, was inspired by her work on that musical.
