Bolero

Bolero

When it comes to love songs, few styles have had anywhere near the impact and emotion of the bolero. From its Cuban origins and development to its widespread pan-Latin adoption and adaptation, the genre continues to inspire artists to this day. One of the most renowned young stars of música mexicana, Ángela Aguilar now joins these esteemed ranks with this concise yet forceful set of songs. Throughout Bolero, she draws upon classics and favourites alike, honouring the singers and songwriters of generations past amid lush arrangements and instrumentation. Popularised in the 1990s by Luz Casal though written decades prior, “Piensa en Mí” finds new life through Aguilar’s voice and emotional delivery. “Obsesión” nods back to her grandparents’ performances of the song as she makes her own mark right through the stunning crescendo. The downright legendary Trio Los Panchos feature on several tracks here, including “Quizás Quizás Quizás” and the evocative opener, “Somos Novios”.
