About Pritam

Pritam is an award-winning composer, singer, and musician whose Bollywood songs are known for fusing Indian classical music with rock and other Western styles. ∙ After playing in several bands while studying sound recording, he moved to Mumbai in 1997 and began composing ad jingles and theme music for TV series. ∙ In 2002, he and writing partner Jeet Gannguli wrote music for the Bollywood rom com Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai and its best-selling soundtrack. ∙ Pritam composed the music for the award-winning 2007 film Life In a Metro, in which he also performed as a member of the rock band Metro, whose songs helped drive the plot. ∙ The soundtrack for the 2010 hit film Once Upon a Time in Mumbai—for which Pritam composed the songs—was the Listeners’ Choice Album of the Year at the Mirchi Music Awards. ∙ He won two Filmfare Awards for his work on the 2012 comedy-drama smash Barfi!, India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Academy Awards. ∙ In 2016, he performed some of his biggest hits—including “Kamli,” from 2013’s action-thriller Dhoom: 3—on India’s MTV Unplugged.
