About Frenéticas
The members of As Frenéticas were originally attendants in Nelson Motta's nightclub Frenetic Dancin' Days Discothèque, located in a Gávea shopping center in Rio. A fashionable place from the start, it was quoted by Caetano Veloso in his "Tigresa" and became the theme of a broadly popular soap opera. A singer (Dulcilene "Nega Dudu" de Moraes) and five performers -- Sandra Cristina "Sandrita Perão" Marzullo Pêra, Edir Silva "Del Castro" de Castro, and the former members of Dzi Croquette (Regina Maria "Tia Rege" Rodrigues Chaves, Leila "Leiloca" Neves, and Maria Lídia "Lidoka" Matuscelli) -- served the tables until midnight, then climbed the little stage and ecstasized the audience with their energetic and spontaneous performances, filled with sensuality. The discothèque had a precocious demise (as one of many crazes in Rio, it endured only one summer), but the Frenéticas were invited by André Midani, WEA's chairman and Nelson Motta's friend, to a recording audition. Their first single, "A Felicidade Bate à Sua Porta," sold 32,000 copies, and their first LP sold 140,000 copies, opening the doors for incursions into the Teatro Teresa Raquel, followed by successful tours. Many years after their dissolution, they tried to resurrect the group in the late '90s with no success. The myth Frenéticas, still remembered in outfits and other influences, endured much more than their short-lived career. ~ Alvaro Neder
