Etherwood’s emotionally charged drum ‘n’ bass pits chirruping breakbeats against blossoming waves of lush sound. As a producer, his love of pure orchestral instruments like strings and piano was put to striking use on his 2012 co-remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games”. Since then, he’s continued to find new ways of providing his mournful songs with dramatic backdrops, whether by playing with haunted synths on “Heterize” or utilising twinkling electric piano on “Unfolding”. But the greatest emotional punch lies in the mix of brickbat beats and heartbroken atmospherics on “Dahlia” and in the boiling turmoil of “Light My Way Home”.
