About Sugababes

The teen-pop trio Sugababes were a near-constant presence on the UK pop charts in the first decade of the millennium. They scored 18 Top 10 hits, including six No. 1 singles. • The original lineup consisted of Siobhán Donaghy and Mutya Buena (both originally signed to solo deals), plus Buena’s childhood friend Keisha Buchanan. They were managed by Ron Tom, known for his work with the successful ’90s-era girl group All Saints. • Their 2000 debut single, “Overload”, went Top 10 in the UK. • The members cowrote many songs on their 2000 debut album One Touch, including “Overload”. But after disappointing sales, they were dropped by their label. • After the first of many lineup changes, Sugababes (with Heide Range replacing Buchanan) earned their first No. 1 in the UK with “Freak Like Me” in 2002. • The group would notch a total of six No. 1 hits and release seven studio albums, four of which went platinum. The 2010 LP Sweet 7 features none of the original singers, as Buchanan—who had been the final founding member—departed in 2009. • The band went on hiatus to pursue solo careers and other projects in 2012. That same year, the original lineup announced their return under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. They dropped the single “Flatline” in 2013 and planned to release new music before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020.
