The Hawaiian singer known affectionately as Bruddah Iz was still being mourned when this respectful reworking of outtakes was released 10 years after his premature passing. In tribute to 1950s exotica, arranger Jon de Mello layers lush strings over Iz’s sweet interpretations of global pop favourites, highlighted by the children’s lullaby “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (recast as a nocturnal lament) and the island pride waltz of “A Hawaiian Like Me”. It’s all graced with the singer’s delightful ukulele, of course.
