About Monsieur Job

Monsieur Job are a music group and production team who fuse the steady pulse of electronic dance music with a wealth of international rhythmic influences, including reggae, dub, son montuno, rock, and much more. Founded by musician and DJ Toby Holguin, the group first emerged with the 2017 single "Chow Chow Eyyy Pow Pow" and enjoyed chart success with their debut album, 2018's Bass Pa$$i 1. Monsieur Job is the creation of Toby Holguin, a musician, producer, and DJ born in Cali, Colombia; he divides his time between Bogota, Colombia, Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. A founder of the Basswalk Records label, Holguin originally made his name doing electronic and chillout music, but eager to create something more spirited and eclectic, he teamed up with two fellow Colombian artists, Charlie Illera and Leo Jaramillo, and another from Bulgaria, Stan Kolev, all three of whom had a background in DJ'ing as well as performing. Calling their collective Monsieur Job, the musicians set out to create music that would combine a rich variety of danceable sounds, including Latin, hip-hop, reggae, rock & roll, and EDM. The group released their first single, "Chow Chow Eyyy Pow Pow," featuring vocals from No Mercy, in October 2017 through Basswalk Latino, and before long it was streamed over 770,000 times. Monsieur Job's debut album, Bass Pa$$i 1, arrived in April 2018, and debuted on the Heatseekers charts (a listing for new, up-and-coming artists) at 24. Their second full-length release, titled Bass Pa$$i 2, followed a month later, and in June 2018 they curated a pair of mix albums, both titled Bora Bora Ibiza. ~ Mark Deming
