The Traveling Wilburys Essentials

The Traveling Wilburys Essentials

In 1988, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne met at Dylan's home studio in Malibu to work on a Harrison B-side and, almost by accident, recorded an album for the ages. Lynne was collaborating on solo material by Petty, Orbison, and Harrison at the time, and his production on Traveling Wilburys Vol. I blends barroom simplicity with ballroom grandeur. Though Orbison died before the group produced their second and final album, the Wilburys' songwriting chops—Orbison's rockabilly roots, Dylan's anti-folk impishness, Petty's modern-rock supremacy—resulted in irresistibly breezy songs that are historic and timeless.
