The core duo of Katsutoshi Kitagawa and Rieko Ito—later joined by vocalist Nino—mix jazz, swing and funk and more in their maverick arrangements which make the perfect accompaniment to the group’s delicious vocal harmonies. “Let Me Be With You”, their opening theme for anime series Chobits, is a prime example, layering toe-tapping rhythms with vibrant, ’60s-inflected melodies that burst with joy and a palpable feeling of freedom.
