A fun project for four teenage girls still in high school, Negoto got serious when they attracted the attention of a major label. Full-length debut ex Negoto in 2011 outlined their vision, based on the interplay between direct guitar assaults and layered, whimsical keyboard movements. Chiming synths and soft, sugary vocals deftly contrast dark bass intros and booming alt-rock explosions that leave the band floating somewhere between childlike fantasy and a futuristic urban dystopia. This is buoyant pop with hints of dance-punk served up in a smart, inspiring mix.
