MusicAeterna Essentials

Founded in 2004 by legendary conductor Teodor Currentzis, MusicAeterna has become a dedicated ensemble with greatly varied skills; indeed, not every orchestra can equally excel in the angular rivers of harmony and violent rhythms of Stravinsky’s ballets (Le sacre du printemps) and Tchaikovsky’s explosive, romantic symphonies. Though they stick heavily to Russian music—Currentzis is a Greek-born Russian conductor—MusicAeterna’s Mozart (Requiem in D Minor K. 626) has a worldly gravity, while the ensemble’s “Soave sia il vento” from Così fan tutte, K. 588 provides a feathery setting for the composer’s magnificent arias.
