Motoharu Sano Essentials

Motoharu Sano has long penned anthemic rockers focused on being young, his uptempo numbers loaded with horn stabs and guitar solos. Coming of age during Japan's “new music” era, he stepped onto the scene in the early ‘80s sounding like the country's answer to Bruce Springsteen, with driving songs featuring saxophone solos and throaty vocals. Sano has dabbled in synthesizer-guided numbers (“VISITORS”) and even piano-layered disco (“Young Bloods”), bringing shout-along hooks to each. Sano creates something universal, tapping into the potential and excitement of youth even in his middle age.
