Don't be fooled by the moniker. Marian Hill may sound like a female solo artist, but it's actually the name of producer Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol's musical project, with substantial contributions from jazz musician Steve Davit. The Philadelphia duo's sound is full despite being created with modest means. Gongol's seductive vocals glides over jittery electronic beats that bring together the moodiness of trip hop with the sleek appeal of R&B. Their 2016 debut full-length, ACT ONE, perfectly distils their sound: sultry, playful and hypnotic.
