At the core of Louis-Jean Cormier’s artful indie pop is a melodic sensibility and heart-on-sleeve emotionalism that can be traced to The Beach Boys’ mid-’60s creative zenith and that finds its modern manifestation in Sufjan Stevens’ delicate songcraft. But Cormier is also a musical omnivore who loves to experiment with arrangements, pulling jazz textures from Miles Davis and rhythmic inspiration from Talking Heads.
