Les Compagnons de la Chanson Essentials

Although she questioned their clean-cut appearance, cabaret star Edith Piaf gave this angelically voiced nine-piece vocal group their first big break, recording "Les Trois Cloches" with them in 1946. The "Companions of Song" were France's answer to The Kingston Trio, from whom they borrowed songs like "Tom Dooley", and the French folk tradition supplied the bulk of their repertoire. Primarily an a cappella outfit, their wholesome appeal played well in the provinces and, later, on the world stage. They toured the globe until 1985, leaving a discography of heavenly harmonies in their wake.
