Kome Kome Club Essentials

Kome Kome Club's nine members play everything from drums to saxophone to flute, packing each track tight with instruments and vocal layers. The result is some of the funkiest, most danceable pop ever to emerge from Japan. The group broke out in the mid-'80s thanks to brass-heavy numbers that draw on soul and city pop, but they've even been known to add storytelling elements from traditional Japanese rakugo with their “more is more” approach. Although best known for filling dance floors, they're not afraid to get sentimental, as on their wildly successful 1992 album Octave.
